Annual Sports Meet

On 21st and 22 nd November 2023 our college organized its Annual Sports Day. The day was filled with a lot of excitement, along with thrills, spirit, and cheers. The Correspondent V. Rev. Dr. Leslie Clifford Dsouza had Presided the function. Dr Gururaj K Dentist, Treasurer St Marys Alumni Association was the Chief Guest. Mrs. Sheetal Maria Dsouza, Branch Manager Udupi Catholic Credit Cooperative Society Shirva was the Guest of  Honour. Mr Melwyn Aranha, Vice President Parish Council Our Lady of Health Church Shirva, Mr. Sudheer Jude Dsouza , President Parent teacher association, Our Principal Mr Jayashankar K, Mrs. Sabina Priya Noronha, Senior Teacher High School Section, Mrs. Pauline Lobo, Headmistress Don Bosco Higher Primary School were present on the dais.

A well coordinated march past by the student was feast to the eyes and ears. The programme commenced with an invocation song by college students.

Honorable chief guest Dr Gururaj K declared the sports meet open.  Guest of honour, Old student of our esteemed institution Mrs Sheetal Maria Dsouza hoisted the college flag. This was followed by lighting kreeda jyothi by Mr Melwyn Aranha. The oath was taken by our CPL Pavan to abide the rules and regulations to participate in the sports with true spirit of sportsmanship.

 Mr Joseph Dsouza Physical Director proposed vote of thanks. Mrs Glenisha Reshma Mendonca Lecturer in Chemistry compered the progamme.

Rev Fr Rolwyn Aranha The Principal Don Bosco English Medium School was the Chief Guest for closing ceremony. Yash Poojary and Chaithra emerged as Individual Champions. The service of teaching, non-teaching staff and volunteers was appreciated at this event. The Programme concluded with National Anthem.

Traditional Day and Talents Day

“All of us do not have equal talent. But, all of us have an equal opportunity to develop our talents.” – APJ Abdul Kalam

The Traditional and Talents Day was celebrated on 9th November 2023 with great enthusiasm. The students came in their traditional dress. Their attire looked simply amazing as they collectively displayed an array of colors that reflected the diversity of India.

The event started with lighting lamp by our Principal Mr Jayashankar K. The students participated enthusiastically in the event. Students showcased their talents. They also showed their expertise at public speaking. The talents day indeed proved to be a wonderful platform for the students to discover their hidden talents.

Farewell function in honour of Mr. Valerian Noronha, Peon St. Mary’s PU College, Shirva on the eve of his superannuation on 31 October 2023 after completing 41 years of dedicated service.  The farewell programme was organized on 04 November 2023. The correspondent V. Rev. Dr. Leslie Clifford Dsouza had Presided the function. Mr. Melwin Aranha Vice President, Parish Council Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva was present on the dais. The programme was started with a prayer by college lecturers. Mr. Jayashankar K. Principal welcomed all. Mr. Maxim Dsouza spoke about the journey of  Mr Valerian Noronha in this institution.

Kannada Rajyotsava Celebration

On 1st November 2023 St. Mary’s High school and PUC section jointly celebrated ‘Kannada Rajyotsava’ programme holding an assembly at our College premises. The programme started with the prayer song by Class IX students. SPL Vinay V Achari gave a start to the assembly with orders. Janaki Class VIII welcomed all. Principal Jayashankar K., Mrs. Sabina Priya Noronha the Senior Teacher High School, all faculty members gave a floral tribute to the portrait of ‘Goddess Bhuvaneshwari’.

Student Representative Saakshi Class VIII spoke on importance of ‘Kannada Rayotsava’. Mrs. Shakila Lecturer in Kannada spoke on the Day’s importance. Bhoomika Class VIII proposed vote of thanks. Moksha compered the progamme. Students and Staff were present at this programme.

NSS Annual Special Camp – 2023

With a motto – ‘’Healthy Society and clean environment’’ from 15th October to 21st October 2023. NSS Annual special camp was held at St. Francis English Medium School, Mudrangadi. Honorable M.L.A of Kaup constituency Shri Suesh Shetty Gurme inaugurated NSS camp. Rev. Fr. Dr. Leslie C. Dsouza Correspondent was the President of the function. Host Institution Correspondent Rev. Fr. Fedric Dsouza raised the Toast. Mudarangadi Panchayat first citizen Ms. Namitha addressed the NSS campers. Mr. Melwyn Aranha Shirva Parish Vice President and Mrs Sabina Priya Noronha Senior High School Teacher spoke at this occasion. Mrs. Suneetha Dsouza Headmistress of Mudrangadi St. Francis English Medium School was on Dais. Mr. Jayashankar K. Principal welcomed. NSS program Officer Mrs. Maria Jacintha Furtado gave an introduction on 7 days camp. NSS leader Sameeksha proposed vote of thanks. Mr. Alwyn Danthy- Graduate Assit. Mount Rosary Eng Medium School took up various competitions.

On 16th October -vocational guidance was directed by JC. Deeksha Kotian, on 17th October  -First aid workshop by Dr. B. Ramachandra Bhat St John’s Ambulance and India Red Cross, On 18th October  –Shirva PSI Mr. Saktivelu E. spoke on ‘SAY NO TO DRUGS’,On 19th October – Notary Wilson Rodrigues, Vice President of Shirva Grama Panchayat gave a talk on ‘’Information on law for students’’, On 20th October Shri Pundaleek Marate spoke on Literature and Importance of Media to students. The President of Kannada Sahithya Parishad – Kaup Taluk.

At valedictory of the NSS  camp on 21st October Mr. VinayKumar Sorake Ex Minister Karnataka Govt lifted up the need of NSS at St. Mary’s PUC Shirva and appreciated  with a Memento to  each  camper.          

Mr. Jayashankar K. was the President of the Progam. Rev. Fr.Ronson Pinto Assist. Parish Priest of Shirva, with an experience as NSS camper of his student life – Bestowed good wishes with trophies to the best Ten campers. Mrs. Mohini C. Hegde, Vice President of Mudrangadi Grama Panchayat was present. Mr. Mohan Noronha – Secretary of Alumini Association St. Mary’s PUC spoke on NSS camp; a boast to students at PUC. Mrs. Suneetha and Mr. Richard Vaz, Secretary of Mudrangadi Church Parish council were present.

NSS program Officer Mrs. Maria Jacintha Furtado welcomed all and listed the Best 10 Trophies to campers, Sameeksha NSS leader proposed vote of thanks. Mr Edward Larson Dsouza Assist. Camp Officer directed the special camp -2023. All campers cleaned the school campus including the Main road upto Mudrangadi – Panchayat at this 2023 camp.

Gandhi Jayanti Celebration

On 2nd October 2023 St. Mary’s High school and PUC section jointly celebrated ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ programme holding an assembly at our College Flag post for a floral tribute. Students invoked prayer.

 SPL Vinay V Achari gave a start to the assembly with orders. Principal Mr Jayashankar K. welcomed all, with the importance of ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ in relation to Education. All faculty members gave a floral tribute to the portrait of ‘Mahatma’.

Student Repersentative Subeeksha spoke on ‘Mahatma Gandhi’s life and the importance of ‘Gandhi Jayanthi’ to the students inparticular.

Mrs. Sabina Priya Noronha the Senior Teacher High School spoke on the Day’s importance and wished warm greetings to our Principal Jayashankar K. on his birthday too. Students also greeted with Birthday song.

Virgina of High School Section proposed vote of thanks. Charithrya compered the progamme. Students and Staff were present at this programme.

”एक तारीख, एक घंटा, एक साथ”

NSS unit and Our St. Mary’s PU students jointly took up ‘एक तारीख, एक घंटा, एक साथ’ – Cleanliness programme to dedicate a day to honour ‘Father of Our Nation’ – Mahatma Gandhi.

‘Swachhatha Divas’ was promoted by cleaning our college Garden, Playground and Front yard of the college. Principal, NSS Officer, Lecturers and all staff members joined hands in working together.

Principal Jayashankar K. and NSS Officer took lead in this work. NSS unit of our college reported the work on ‘Swacchatha’ to staff officer and college to the Department of Education.

‘Let us keep our surrounding clean and Grow Green.’

DISTRICT LEVEL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

St. Mary’s PU College, Shirva Boys and Girls team participated in District Level Football Tournament held on 23-09-2023 at Green Valley PU College, Shiroor. Our College girls team declared as winners at Udupi District level and qualified for state level.

Felicitation program was held in the college at morning assembly. The Correspondent V. Rev. Dr. Leslie C. Dsouza and Mr. Melwin Aranha Vice President, Parish Council, Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva honoured the students. The Correspondent addressed the students and congratulated the winners and Mr. Joseph Dsouza, the college Physical Director.

World Suicide Control Day

St. Mary’s PU College, Shirva, Community Health Centre and NSS unit of our college jointly took up the ‘World Suicide Control Day’ program at ‘Savud Saba Bhavan’ on 27-09-2023.

College Students invoked prayer. Mrs Maria Jacintha Furtado Principal Incharge welcomed all. Dr Ritika Salian of Udupi District Hospital inaugurated the function of medical camp. She spoke on Psychological Depression, mental stress and the student’s problems leading to suicide. Evaluating the incidents she communicated ‘Relief Measures’ with proper guidance.

With a view to care for the girl child ‘Adolescents Educational program’ was taken by Mrs. Vasanthi the Counsellor of Udupi District Hospital. She raised the need of Personal cleanliness, disciplined edible food system, modest clothing system are very much necessary. Clinical Psychologist Ms. Catherine Jenifer was present.

Lecturers – Mrs Juliana Dsouza proposed vote of thanks and Mrs. Glenisha Reshma Mendonca compered the program.
